Colour Do's and Don'ts

22 Dec COLOUR DO’S AND DON’TS

Trying to choose a colour scheme for your room? Use our guide to help you decide and ultimately end up with a room that you love to live in!

DO USE COLOUR IN A SMALL SPACE

Many of us default to light neutrals in a small space but adding a rich colour to a small area that you pass through, such as the hallway, can make your home seem bigger by drawing the eye to a space you wouldn’t normally notice as much.

DON’T LISTEN WHEN PEOPLE TELL YOU NOT TO USE WHITE

Now, several people will probably have a few things to say about this, but white walls create such a light and airy vibe and always make me feel calm and relaxed. Many people associate white with stark, but you can bring so much warmth into the room by layering warm textiles and amazing pops of colour by hanging oversized colourful artwork. I love how they have added jewel tone cushions and vivid green plants in this white kitchen, this to me looks fresh and the accents of colour totally draw my eye. This is a room I would love to live in.

DON’T OVERLOOK YOUR BATHROOM

Start with a neutral tile that will never go out of style and add pops of colour to create a more uplifting space. Displaying colour towels and accessories is an easy way to achieve this.

DO PICK A COLOUR THEME FOR YOUR HOUSE

If you walk through the rooms in your house and they go from green to pink to orange to turquoise, apart from getting a headache,  your home is going to look disjointed and thoughtless. Instead, choose different shades from the same colour group to create a cohesive home.

DON’T GET TOO SUCKED IN BY COLOUR TRENDS

They are great for inspiration and bringing to our attention great ideas that we might not have thought of ourselves, but it is your home and you are the one that has to live in it, so decorate it in colour that you love!
